Alex Sarafian is the Senior Vice President of Consumer Risk for General Motors Financial’s (GMF) International Operations. In this capacity, Alex is responsible for overseeing GMF’s global consumer risk and data management practices outside the US and Canada.
Alex has over 25 years of experience in the financial services industry, with over 20 in automotive finance. Prior to his current role at GMF, Alex spent over fifteen years at Ally Financial (formerly GMAC), in a variety of leadership positions in different disciplines.
Most recently, Alex was the risk executive responsible for leading Ally’s Basel II regulatory compliance activities in the global automotive, mortgage, and data governance spaces. Prior to that, Alex led the Consumer Credit team within Ally’s North American Operations, responsible for credit policy, scoring, acquisitions procedures, and systems.
Previously, Alex was Executive Director of Finance / Assistant Treasurer for Ally’s North American Operations for a number of years, overseeing analytics, forecasting, pricing, residual value management, data governance, and mergers and acquisitions. In this role, he also spearheaded strategic initiatives such as finance representation during the majority sale of Ally (then GMAC) and GMAC involvement in the founding of RouteOne LLC.
Prior to joining Ally in 1997, Alex held a variety of financial, operating, and information technology positions in the mortgage services industry.
Alex holds a Master of Business Administration in Corporate Strategy and Finance and a Bachelor of Business Administration in Finance and Marketing and a from the University of Michigan Business School (now Ross School of Business).
